When in the grave, humans will realize the truth of the descriptions conveyed in the Quran and the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) about the conditions in the grave, such as pleasures, punishments, or torments that may be experienced in the future. Summarized from various sources, here are some types of torment in the grave that can serve as a reminder to continue doing good deeds and getting closer to Allah SWT.
People who have passed through the agony of death will enter the realm of the grave. In the realm of the barzakh (grave), our souls will be shown a terrifying depiction of hell. The gates of hell will be opened and shown to them, so they will experience the extraordinary heat of its fire.
From Ibn Umar, it was narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Verily, when one of you dies, his future abode will be shown to him in the morning and evening. If he is one of the inhabitants of Paradise, then Paradise will be shown to him. If he is one of the inhabitants of Hell, then Hell will be shown to him. It will be said to him, 'This is your future abode, until Allah resurrects you on the Day of Judgment.' " (Muttafaqun 'alaih)
he translation of the text while preserving the HTML tags is as follows: The description of torment in the grave, which is no less terrifying, is being beaten with iron by the angels who are tasked with tormenting humans. This story was told by the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in his hadith
From Anas, from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), he said: "As for the disbeliever or hypocrite, the two angels will ask him: 'What is your answer about this person (the Messenger of Allah)?' He will say: 'I do not know. I say what people say.' Then the two angels will say: 'You do not know? You did not read?' Then he will be struck with a hammer made of iron, right on his face. He will scream with a very loud scream that will be heard by all the inhabitants of the earth, except for two groups: jinn and humans." (Muttafaqun 'alaih)
The depiction of torment in the next grave is terrifying, as its foundation is made of the fire of hell. The torment of the grave is indeed portrayed with horrifying things as a reminder for humans to fear doing evil. Continuing from the previous hadith, Allah SWT said to the angels in the grave, 'Spread for him a bed made of the fire of hell.' (HR. Ahmad, Nasai, Ibn Majah, and Al-Hakim)
The description of torment in the next grave is that it will be narrowed and the bones will be crushed. This is a depiction for those who are disobedient to Allah SWT. \
Then he (the person who receives the punishment of the grave) asked, 'Who are you? Your face is a face that comes with wickedness.' He answered, 'I am your bad deeds.' Then he (the person who receives the punishment of the grave) said, 'O my Lord, do not bring forth the Day of Judgment!' (Because he knows that his end is in hell)." (HR. Ahmad, Nasai, Ibn Majah, and Al-Hakim)
