Dream - Have you ever woken up with a sore throat and hoarse voice? Maybe you have. But you might not have expected that the sore throat and hoarse voice are not only caused by common flu.
A 53-year-old Vietnamese man also experienced symptoms of a sore throat and hoarse voice. He even vomited blood. When examined, it turned out that there was a live leech in his throat.
The man was worried about his condition and tried to find out the cause himself by opening his mouth and looking inside in the mirror. But he didn't find much abnormality except for what appeared to be a brown object at the top of his throat.
The man felt panicked and immediately sought medical help by going to a hospital near his house. He had himself checked at the National Endocrinology Hospital in Hanoi, complaining of discomfort in the throat and occasionally vomiting blood.
After the doctor performed an endoscopy examination, it was revealed that there was a leech measuring 6 centimeters attached tightly to his throat. The blood-sucking creature was still alive and attached just below the glottis near the trachea.
Discoveries like this are indeed not strange but are considered as a very rare phenomenon.
The Cause of Leeches in the Throat.
Leeches can usually enter the human body due to a lack of awareness in maintaining cleanliness. In this case, the man informed the doctor about the cause of the leech entering his throat. He admitted to having a wound on his hand while handling a rat trap about a month earlier.
As a person who strongly believes in herbal medicine, he went and took medicinal plants. The man then put it into his mouth and chewed it until it became smooth and turned into a paste.
Next, the paste formed in his mouth was then applied to the wound on his hand. Apparently, the medicinal plant he chewed contained leeches that then stuck to his throat.
"Lice are usually very small in size, making them difficult to detect. However, after sucking blood, they quickly enlarge. To avoid such situations, doctors suggest avoiding contaminated water sources and dirty foliage when in the wilderness."
