To make the dish taste delicious, you have to cook ontong pisang properly, you can't do it carelessly. Sometimes, if you're not careful, ontong pisang can become bitter or even black. Well, make sure you know the correct way to cook it first! Come on, let's find out how!

1. Choose Fresh Pisang Ontong

First of all, make sure that the banana you choose is still fresh. Choose from types of kepok banana, raja banana, or batu banana only, because these ones are usually tastier. If you're unsure, try poking it a bit with a toothpick. If the sap is not too thick, it means it's good for cooking.

               

2. Peel the red skin of the Ontong banana.

After that, just peel off the red skin. Leave only the white part which is delicious to eat. Cut into pieces, wash thoroughly to remove the sap before cooking.

               

3. Cut into Four Parts

Before cooking the banana, first cut it into four pieces. Well, this is to prevent the sap from sticking too much and the color from turning black quickly. Use a clean knife, for safety.

               

4. Soak with Saltwater

Next, soak the ontong banana with saltwater. This is to make the sap cleaner and remove the bitterness. Dissolve salt in water, soak the ontong banana for about 10-15 minutes. Make sure all parts of the ontong banana are submerged.

               

5. Clean and Boil

"After soaking, wash again with clean water. This is to ensure that the sap is completely gone. Then boil the banana stem. Make sure the boiling water is already boiling and all parts of the banana stem are submerged. Flip the banana stem back and forth to dissolve the sap."

               

6. Let it cool for a moment

After boiling, strain the ontong banana and let it cool for a while. If you want it to be quick, you can wrap it with banana leaves so that the steam from boiling quickly disappears.

               

7. Process Ontong Pisang Properly

"After it cools down, the ontong pisang is ready to be processed into a delicious dish. Just be creative according to your taste, it can be stir-fried ontong pisang, ontong pisang curry, or others.
