"Brewing Tea with Controversial Salt"

Mixing Tea with Salt that Sparks Controversy

Dream - Tea is a favorite drink for many people. Especially when served warm to start the morning, our minds will feel more relaxed so that we can go through the day. Does Sahabat Dream also like tea?

Mixing Tea with Salt that Sparks Controversy

We know tea as a warm bitter drink, and it will taste better when adding sugar to it. Some people also add milk to their tea, but have you ever tried brewing it with salt?

Michelle Francl, a chemist in her book "Steeped: The Chemistry of Tea," wrote that there was once a manuscript that suggested adding a little salt to each cup of tea. Francl then conducted research and concluded that sodium in salt can block receptors on the tongue that sense the bitter sensation of tea, thus making it taste better.

Mixing Tea with Salt that Sparks Controversy

The presentation of tea in each country is certainly different. Like in England, it is known that they prefer to enjoy tea by pouring boiling water from a kettle into a cup, putting it into a bag containing tea leaves or a tea-making tool.

"Baru kemudian diseduh. Setelah itu baru dituang susu atau sesendok gula sesuai selera. Dengan adanya perbedaan cara penyajian, rang Inggris menentang dengan keras pernyataan Michelle Francl untuk menambahkan garam ke dalam teh. Bahkan, mereka sampai menuliskan "Seorang ilmuwan dari negara tempat menemukan teh yang dibuat dengan air hangat dari keran mengklaim telah menemukan resep untuk secangkir teh yang sempurna," tulis surat kabar The Guardian." Translation: "First, it is brewed. After that, milk or a spoonful of sugar is added according to taste. With the difference in serving methods, the British strongly oppose Michelle Francl's statement of adding salt to tea. They even wrote, "A scientist from the country where tea made with warm tap water was discovered claims to have found the recipe for a perfect cup of tea," wrote The Guardian newspaper."

To emphasize the recipes and opinions, Francl finally conducted extensive research on tea from ancient times to the latest chemical research. The result is Francl releasing a thick 240-page book on January 24th.

In addition to revealing secrets about the salty taste strategy of unique salt delivery, Francl also shared some other tips to perfect the drink.
