Dream - Google agrees to pay a fine of US$5 billion (around Rp77 trillion) to settle user privacy lawsuits. Where each user will receive compensation of Rp77 million. Previously, the plaintiffs accused Google of spying on people who use browsers. Even though users have set the Incognito mode for Chrome and Private mode for other browsers.

The plaintiff also accused that Google's activities produce "a lot of unaccountable information". United States District Judge, Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, in Oakland, California, postponed the scheduled trial on February 5, 2024, after lawyers for Google and the plaintiff stated that they have reached an initial settlement.

"In August, Rogers initially rejected Google's offer to dismiss the lawsuit. He stated that it is an open question whether Google has made legally binding promises not to collect user data when they browse in private mode. The judge cited Google's privacy policy and other statements from the company that indicate limitations on the information that can be collected."

However, Google has not responded to requests for comment on the settlement. The latest report from Reuters noted that both parties agreed to the existence of terms and conditions through mediation.
