According to President Jokowi, the distribution of 10 Kilogram (Kg) Rice Social Assistance (Bansos Beras) is needed to protect the purchasing power of the people from the increase in rice prices. He also emphasized that the increase in food prices not only occurs in Indonesia.

Jokowi said that the increase in rice prices in Indonesia is mainly caused by climate change. This condition has an impact on the disruption of the rice planting season, which leads to a decrease in harvest productivity.

Seeing these conditions, Jokowi ensures that the government will continue to distribute Rice Social Assistance (Bansos Pangan Beras) to low-income communities. The distribution of rice is carried out while still considering the available budget in the State Budget (APBN).

"So this is January, February, March, April, May, and June. Later after June, we will see if the state budget is sufficient or not. So, have received everything," said President Jokowi in front of 1,064 recipients of rice social assistance."

"Previously, the Secretary General of the Central Leadership Council of the Indonesian Market Traders Association (Ikappi), Reynaldi Sarijowan, said that currently, the increase in rice prices has reached the highest record in the Jokowi administration era. Reynaldi noted that medium rice is sold at Rp13,500 per kg, while premium rice has reached Rp18,500 per kg. 'This is the highest price of rice throughout President Jokowi's administration,' said Reynaldi."

In addition to the natural price increase, Reynaldi continued, the supply of medium and premium rice has also become scarce in traditional markets. This condition has caused the price of rice to become increasingly expensive. "(Currently) rice has skyrocketed and it is difficult to find rice in traditional markets," he said.
