Dream - Compared to doctors or soldiers, professions in the financial sector are usually only considered by a child when they reach adulthood. This profession is also the aspiration of the Generation Z. A survey initiated by The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) revealed that the profession of a professional accountant is the top career choice for Generation Z in the financial sector. The survey was conducted in the third quarter of 2023, involving 248 respondents from various demographics of Generation Z in Indonesia.

As many as 34.9 percent of respondents chose this path because of the alignment of their educational majors with the finance or accounting sector. Meanwhile, 22.9 percent of respondents have different reasons. This group sees the prospects in the finance or accounting field as a good career choice and a clear important factor in choosing a career in this field.

Professional accountants are the dominant choice with a percentage of 32.3%, followed by private banking institutions. The main reason that makes professional accounting profession the top choice is the prospect of career development and certain experience.

Based on data released by the Financial Profession Development Center of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia (PPPK Kemenkeu), as of October 9, 2023, there are 1,525 registered professional accountants as active members and 479 Public Accountant Offices (KAP). "The high demand in this industry reflects the continuously growing needs and serves as a reflection of the vitality of the profession," said Conny Siahaan, Head ICAEW of Indonesia, in his statement, quoted on Thursday, December 21, 2023.
