Ojol Driver's Complaint Hopes to Receive THR This Year

"Despite being supported by the Ministry of Manpower, Ojol drivers are not confident about receiving holiday bonuses."

Dream - General Chairman of the Indonesian Online Motorcycle Taxi Drivers Association, Igun Wicaksono, requested online motorcycle taxi platform companies (ojol) to pay Eid al-Fitr Allowance (THR) to their partners. This request is in line with the directive from the Ministry of Manpower.

Igun revealed that Ojol drivers have only been receiving bonus incentives as THR from the company.

"All ojol drivers should be paid their THR (holiday allowance) if the government requests application platform companies to provide THR. Usually, it is only given in the form of incentive bonuses."

Igun added, the bonus received by Ojol drivers is not evenly distributed. The amount of incentive value depends on the policy of each platform, ranging from requirements to conditions.

For example, if a driver can achieve 100 percent daily point target, then they are entitled to receive bonus incentives.

"Not all platforms implement the same mechanisms. So, it's like being able to achieve 100 percent daily points target or keeping the application active during holidays to search for orders. Those who are eligible to receive the incentive bonus also depend on the policies of each platform."

According to Igun, ojol drivers are not wage earners or employees, so the THR referred to is only in the form of additional incentive bonuses.

"Usually, the bonus is in the form of points that can be converted into cash or direct money sent through the driver's electronic wallet. 'Because these motorcycle taxi drivers are not wage recipients or employees, the holiday bonus referred to is only in the form of additional bonuses, as one of the gimmicks that the platform is taking advantage of the festive season for its drivers,' said Igun."

The rules regarding the provision of THR (Religious Holiday Allowance) to Ojol drivers refer to Circular Letter (SE) Number M/2/HK.04.00/III/2024 on the Implementation of Religious Holiday Allowance in 2024 for Workers in Companies.

The Director General of Industrial Relations Development (PHI-JSK) of the Ministry of Manpower, Indah Anggoro Putri, said that the profession of online motorcycle taxi drivers (Ojol) is included in the category of fixed-term employment agreements (PKWT). "Although the working relationship is a partnership, it falls under the category of fixed-term employment agreements (PKWT). So, it is included in the coverage of the circular letter," said Indah in a press conference.
