Dream - A company in China, named Guangdong Dongpo Paper, has replaced its year-end employee bonus program with another scheme designed to promote sports. They provide attractive financial rewards for employees who exercise daily.
According to Oddity Central, the paper company in Guangdong Province has replaced the performance-based employee bonus scheme with an athletic performance-based bonus scheme.
"To promote a healthy lifestyle among its 100 employees, the management has decided to reward them based on how much they exercise."
As an example, an employee will receive a full monthly bonus if they run a distance of 50 km in a month. They will receive 60 percent of the bonus for running 40 km, and 30 percent for 30 km. Running enthusiasts will receive a 30 percent bonus if they can prove that they have run more than 100 km in one month.
"My business can only survive if my employees are healthy," said Dongpo Paper boss, Lin Zhiyong."
Lin Zhiyong admitted to spending the last three years encouraging his employees to enjoy sports and fitness. The distance covered by each employee is tracked by an application on their mobile phones. This application also takes into account activities such as mountain climbing and brisk walking, each of which can contribute up to 60 and 30 percent, respectively, of the total required exercise.
This program is considered a great success, and Lin Zhiyong, who is also a sports fan, claims that all employees are eligible to receive full bonuses.
According to Chinese media, Dongpo Paper employees are very happy with the new bonus structure, and they say that they can receive both health benefits and money.
However, despite generally receiving positive responses online, some people believe that this new policy can lead to discrimination. "The intention of this company's policy is good, but it should consider the conditions or health issues among its employees," one person commented online. The netizen asked about the policy for employees at risk of heart attacks or unable to meet bonus requirements.
The other accuses Guangdong Dongpo Paper of endangering the health of its employees by setting a very high bonus threshold for them. Some netizens believe that employees can damage their knees by pursuing this target.
