Dream - Commissioner of the Public Housing Savings Management Agency (BP Tapera), Heru Pudyo Nugroho, said that private employees and civil servants (PNS) are still required to participate in the Tapera program even if they already have a house.
This provision is regulated in Law Number 4 of 2016 concerning People's Housing Savings (Tapera). "Well, this is also a conception of Law number 4 of 2016, so the Head of the Presidential Staff (Moeldoko) has already conveyed that the housing ownership gap in Indonesia is still very high," said Heru quoted from Merdeka.com.
Heru noted, there are approximately 9.95 million families in Indonesia who do not have homes. Meanwhile, the government's ability to build houses with various subsidy schemes and financing facilities can only provide around 250 thousand units.
With that ability, there are 700 thousand to 800 thousand new families each year who do not have a house. From that condition, the government has difficulty in overcoming the gap in housing availability in Indonesia.
"So, if we only rely on the government, it won't catch up, until when will the backlog (housing) be completed," said Heru firmly. In addition, the involvement of the community is also needed to reduce the increasing interest rates of housing mortgage loans from year to year. Currently, the average interest rate for housing mortgage loans is around 5 percent."
"That's why we need a grand design involving the community to work together with the government. The concept is that those who already have a house from the results of their savings will use a portion to subsidize the cost of mortgage loans for those who do not have a house yet," he said."
Therefore, the government involves all elements of society to address the housing availability gap in Indonesia through the Tapera program. This program will deduct employees' salaries by 2.5 percent and companies' contributions by 0.5 percent per month.
