Dream - National Batik Day Celebration 2023 on October 2nd by the Indonesian Batik Foundation as evidence of the revival of the batik industry after the Covid-19 pandemic. It cannot be denied that the Covid-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on society in various aspects of life. This includes the batik industry sector, which has suffered severe effects on batik craftsmen due to the decline in people's purchasing power. Fortunately, in recent years, the Covid-19 virus has gradually subsided, and this is marked by the resurgence of economic activity among the community.
"Although it takes quite some time, there appears to be a process of increasing the pace of the economy in this batik industry. Carrying the theme of 'Batik Revival,' the Indonesian Batik Foundation aims to revive the batik industry from the pandemic slump, so that the batik industry can recover in all aspects, including production, trade, development, and innovation. In order to support this noble intention, the Indonesian Batik Foundation collaborates with the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology to support the revival of the batik industry in the archipelago."
Attended by Wury Ma'ruf Amin with the agenda of Batik Making Together.
At the National Batik Day event in 2023 held at the Indonesian Batik Museum, the Indonesian Batik Foundation also invited a series of prominent figures such as the Wife of the Vice President of Indonesia, Wury Ma'ruf Amin, the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Nadiem Makarim, and his team, Shanty Leksono as the chairperson of the National Batik Day 2023, Diana Sentosa as the Vice Chairperson of the Indonesian Batik Foundation, as well as batik activists from all over Indonesia.
"The presence of National Batik Day with the theme 'Batik Rises' is an important moment for the batik industry to grow and advance after being hindered by the Covid-19 pandemic," said Wury Ma'ruf Amin.
National Batik Day warning, according to Wury, as a sign of batik's contribution as a globally recognized national cultural heritage through international exhibitions and fashion shows. "Batik can go global but still belongs to Indonesia," she explained. The opening of the event was marked by the activity of batik making using the technique of canting on IKN (Capital City) motif fabric by Wury Ma'ruf Amin, accompanied by Nadiem Makarim and Shanty Laksono.
Efforts to Preserve Batik by Embracing Batik Artisans
To smooth out the agenda, on the National Batik Day celebration, through the Indonesian Batik Foundation, we embrace all batik craftsmen from Indonesia to directly participate in the activities of the National Batik Day celebration in 2023. "In this year's celebration of National Batik Day 2023, we are still with the same theme, which is Batik, Rise. It can rise in popularity, industry, and also the craftsmen. This event will not be realized without the support from the batik craftsmen across Indonesia," said Diana Sentosa, Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Batik Foundation.
"Official Opening of the Indonesian Batik Museum"
National Batik Day 2023 will also be a momentum for the grand launching of the Indonesian Batik Museum, which will become a center of information and education for anyone to get to know all the batik motifs spread throughout Indonesia. This inauguration is also marked by the signing of a plaque by Nadiem Makarim, which is part of the agenda for this year's National Batik Day.
"Education Platform for the Young Generation"
"The important thing about the National Batik Day celebration is the transfer of knowledge carried out by the master craftsmen to the younger generation, with the aim of preserving the batik culture," said Nadiem. The presence of 125 batik makers working together, according to Nadiem, is a crucial step towards realizing the inheritance through this year's National Batik Day moment."
He hopes that more young generations will be interested in and learn the skill of batik, and that young batik makers who innovate and contribute to the development of batik in the future will also be born. In line with the statement of the Minister of Education and Culture, the Indonesian Batik Foundation has prepared various programs specifically for the younger generation, one of which is collaborating with batik artisans to produce batik that is relevant to the times, fun, and modern. With this education, it is hoped that this program will not only become a trend but also become the identity of the younger generation.
