"In February 2024, WhatsApp has conducted a trial of a new privacy feature on the beta version to protect users' profile photos from criminal activities. Now, this feature has been officially launched on the regular version of WhatsApp, which is the ability to prevent users from taking screenshots of profile photos."
With this feature, users will get a higher level of security and greater control over who can access their content. In beta version testing, when users try to take a screenshot, they will see a black screen with the message "unable to take a screenshot due to application restrictions".
Now, in the stable version of WhatsApp, users who try to take a screenshot will receive the same message. When users try to take a screenshot of a profile picture on WhatsApp, no black screen is displayed, but a pop-up message appears stating "This application does not allow screenshots."
Although it is not possible to take screenshots of individual profile pictures, WhatsApp still allows users to take screenshots of profile pictures in group chats. However, WhatsApp does not grant permission to take profile pictures of every group member.
Although this feature has been released, there is still no detailed information about whether this feature is optional or not. Therefore, it is still unknown how to disable it if there are users who still want to allow others to take screenshots of their profile pictures.
"Not the First Privacy Feature Launched"
The feature mentioned above is not the first feature designed to protect the privacy of WhatsApp users. Previously, WhatsApp has introduced several privacy settings options that can be used by users to maintain their privacy. Some of these options include the ability to change privacy settings for profile photos, control who can see once-viewed media, and set privacy for uploaded statuses.
"Previously, WhatsApp has also launched end-to-end message encryption feature for users worldwide. This feature is designed to provide additional security to users when they send and receive messages on the platform. With end-to-end message encryption, messages sent between users will be encrypted on the sender's device and can only be opened by the intended recipient. This means that messages cannot be accessed by third parties, including WhatsApp itself."
This step is a step forward for WhatsApp in providing a more secure messaging application for users. With end-to-end message encryption, users can feel more at ease and confident that their messages will not fall into the wrong hands. This feature will be available to all WhatsApp users worldwide in the coming weeks. Users will begin to see options to enable end-to-end message encryption in their app settings. Users can activate this feature by following the simple steps provided by WhatsApp.
With the increasing number of online security threats, this new privacy feature recently released by WhatsApp provides additional protection for users. WhatsApp is committed to protecting user privacy and continuously improving their platform's security. By launching the feature that prevents screenshotting of profile photos, WhatsApp provides tangible evidence of their commitment.
