Dream - Several areas in Jabotabek are currently experiencing an increase in cases of dengue fever (DBD). Not only adults, but also children whose immune systems tend to be very low.
In some cases of dengue fever (DBD), patients experience severe bleeding and even death. This certainly worries many people, especially parents whose children are affected by DBD.
When a child is affected by dengue fever (DBD), the condition is not always severe. In some children, the symptoms subside on their own and do not require intensive treatment. However, there are also cases where hospitalization is necessary because the condition is quite severe. Usually, the doctor will assess the patient's risk factors for contracting DBD before deciding whether hospitalization is needed or not. This is according to the explanation given by Dr. Ade Indrisari, a pediatric specialist.
"Hello, does every dengue fever case need to be treated in a hospital? The answer is no. Because the spectrum of this disease is indeed wide. There are those who are asymptomatic, there are those who have mild symptoms, there are those who have severe symptoms and even death. We should be more cautious with people who have risk factors, usually the elderly, then infants, and people with comorbidities or pre-existing conditions," he said."
He explained that until now there is no specific medicine to treat dengue fever. The medicine given by the doctor to DBD patients, both children and adults, is pain relievers, such as paracetamol.
"Do not take aspirin, do not take ibuprofen, as it will increase the risk of bleeding. If we suspect in that direction, only give paracetamol. Then, get enough rest, then enough fluids, and eat," said Dr. Ade.
In patients with DBD, the typical symptom is a high fever above 39.5 degrees Celsius. It can be accompanied by headaches, pain behind the eyes, nausea, vomiting, swollen glands, joint pain, bone or muscle pain, and rash. One thing to be aware of in DBD patients is when the fever subsides and enters the critical phase.

Critical period usually occurs 24-48 hours after the fever subsides. In such conditions, one must be alert if there are signs and symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, continuous vomiting, bleeding gums, vomiting blood, rapid breathing, fatigue, or restlessness.
"If there is any of these symptoms, we must immediately take the person or child to the hospital. Well, remember until now there is no specific medicine, no herbal remedies, or guava juice, all of them have been proven to be ineffective," said Dr. Ade. He suggests that children be applied mosquito repellent lotion as a prevention, look for those that contain DEET or picaridin. Also, do the dengue fever vaccine that is currently available and intended for ages 6 to 45 years. Source: IG @ade_indrisari_dr"
