Dream - Being a mother is not easy, especially when you have a baby. Sometimes babies can make sounds while sleeping like crying, snorting, whimpering, and even snoring.
"Many babies have a tendency to make noise, but it doesn't always indicate a health problem," said Amanda Stovall, MD, Pediatric Specialist at Springfield Clinic in Illinois. Snoring is a common phenomenon in babies and adults. Although snoring is usually more associated with adults, some babies may experience snoring while sleeping. Snoring in babies can be caused by various factors. One common cause is laryngomalacia, where the baby's larynx is still soft and vibrates more when breathing."
Other factors that can cause snoring involve nasal congestion due to fluid or upper respiratory tract infections. Dry sleeping environment, deviated nasal septum, and certain genetic conditions such as Down syndrome can also be causes of snoring in infants.
"Snoring in babies is mostly not a cause for concern, but consult with a doctor if there are specific worries," said Jonathan Maynard, a Pediatric Specialist in California."
Snoring in babies is generally normal and tends to improve as they grow. If it becomes chronic or disruptive, it should be observed. It is recommended to take a video to show to a pediatrician if there are concerns, especially if the baby is showing difficulty breathing.
According to Dr. Stovall, most babies who make noise while breathing and stop over time do so because the tissue around their airways becomes stiffer. If a baby has just recovered from an illness, there are steps that can be taken.
The first step, spray saline solution into the nose and use a suction pump to remove mucus. Then, use a humidifier in the baby's bedroom to add moisture to the air.
If the baby shows signs of difficulty breathing such as breathing heavily, skin turning blue, wide open nostrils while breathing, or appears to be pulling between the ribs, immediately take them to the emergency room (ER).
However, if other symptoms such as difficulty breastfeeding, releasing the bottle when breathing, or continuous snoring occur, immediately consult a pediatric specialist. Report by Amanda Syavira / Source Parents.com
