"Pregnant Mothers, Do Not Hold Back Urinating During Traveling Home"

Pregnant Women, Don't Hold Back Urinating While Traveling Home

Dream - Ahead of Eid al-Fitr for fathers and mothers who live far from their families and parents, they may be preparing for the homecoming journey (mudik). This mudik moment is indeed an opportunity for gathering and should not be missed.

Pregnant Women, Don't Hold Back Urinating While Traveling Home

As we know, traveling home during Ramadan can sometimes be uncomfortable. Regardless of the type of transportation, it is necessary to make thorough preparations to ensure a comfortable, safe, and smooth journey.

Especially if the mother is pregnant, of course the body condition is very different from normal people. Easily tired, easily short of breath, also the feet can swell and be painful because the body sits for too long. Not to mention, pregnant women have to go back and forth to urinate, especially when pregnancy is large because the uterus containing the fetus continues to press the bladder. In the situation of going home and on the journey, try not to hold back urinating for pregnant women.

Frequent withholding of urination can trigger the occurrence of urinary tract infections (UTIs) which can be dangerous for pregnant women. UTIs are infection disorders usually caused by bacteria that are carried from the skin, vagina, or anus, entering the urethra and moving towards the upper urinary tract.

"During pregnancy, the hormone progesterone increases, causing a decrease in muscle movement in the ureter, which ultimately disrupts urine flow. The urine becomes blocked in the ureter. This effect also disrupts the emptying of the urinary tract. These deposits often become a breeding ground for bacteria," said Dr. Theresia Rina Yunita from KlikDokter.

Holding in urine can increase the risk of UTI, not only that pregnant women should also always change their underwear every 3 hours. Do not let it stay damp or wet as it will make bacteria easier to multiply.

"Symptoms of UTI that Must Be Watched Out for"

In those who experience a urinary tract infection (ISK), there are usually typical symptoms, namely pain when urinating or feeling blocked. This condition is often referred to as "anyang-anyangan."

Other symptoms include urine that smells stronger than usual and is cloudy, sometimes accompanied by blood during urination. It may also be accompanied by lower abdominal pain, fever, chills, and back pain.

If pregnant women experience a series of UTI symptoms, immediately consult a doctor and do not delay. Because untreated UTI can worsen and endanger pregnancy. Source: KlikDokter.com
