Dream - Afternoon nap for children is as important as sleeping at night. With regular and quality afternoon naps, children will have better immune system, making them less prone to getting sick.
"Not only that, according to Dr. Frieda Handayani, a pediatric specialist, taking a nap can help children's brains rest and regenerate. Make sure your little one takes regular naps, including during the journey home and while staying in their hometown."
"Improving focus, accelerating growth processes, improving mood, and maintaining the stability of the body's organs," said Dr. Frieda. She explained that the ideal duration for a child's nap is between 1 and 2 hours. Children above 5 years old should take a nap once."
"Meanwhile, children under the age of 5 usually need at least two nap times. Make sure their nap times are not too late in the afternoon, as this will make it difficult for them to sleep at night," said Dr. Frieda.
It is important to observe the child's afternoon nap pattern for a week. If our child shows signs of drowsiness around 1 pm, then that is their nap time.
To make a child take a nap at the right time, do the same routine as what is usually done before bedtime. If before bedtime the child is used to drinking milk and/or reading storybooks, then do the same thing before our child takes a nap.
"Enough sleep will maintain a child's immune system, but if the afternoon nap is too long, there is a high chance that the child will have difficulty sleeping at night. It is better to get the child to wake up from their afternoon nap before 4 pm," Dr. Frieda advised in her Instagram post @frieda.handayani.
Other facts, cited from KlikDokter.com, according to research conducted at Harvard University, children who regularly take afternoon naps have more optimal growth compared to children who rarely or never take afternoon naps.
