Dream - Wearing colorful hair clips, braiding hair in various styles, or using other hair accessories to school has become a common thing in Indonesia. Usually, kindergarten and elementary school students wear colorful hair decorations to make their appearance brighter.
Apparently, in Japan, that is prohibited. Wawan Supriyanto, an Indonesian citizen (WNI) who works in Japan and brought his family, shares his experience through the Instagram account @kanankiriwow.
Wawan has one daughter who studies at one of the elementary schools in Japan. When she first started school, the daughter wore a uniform and her hair was neatly tied with a colored hair tie. Who would have thought that because of that hair tie, Wawan received a warning from the school. "When my sister first entered elementary school here in Japan, just like other children in our home country, we wanted her to look fresh, pleasant to the eye. So we dressed her up before going to school, not too excessive, just put on colorful hair ties. After she started school, the school suddenly called her," said Wawan.
From the phone, Wawan was asked by the school to wear a braid with black, dark blue, and other soft colors. It is not allowed to use colorful braids other than those allowed.
"After I checked the circular provided by the school, it turns out that the allowed colors are black and brown. Since then, we finally stocked braces in this color (black). So, black and dark blue are the colors," expressed Wawan."
He was curious about the rules of the school where his child studied and asked his friends in Japan. It turns out that the rules are also implemented in many schools.
"So the reason is that in school, fashionable appearance is not necessary. Because this is a place of learning, the focus is on teaching and learning. By setting black, brown, and dark blue as the designated colors, everyone is considered equal," said Wawan. The school also does not want the emergence of gaps among the students. Therefore, rules are made for students to wear clothing or accessories that are appropriate and not excessive."
"Maybe if there are certain color trends or hair accessory trends, many people will flock to buy them. At that time, there may be a gap between those who can afford to buy them and those who cannot. By using the same and similar colors, everyone is considered equal, no school children wear excessive or luxurious accessories," said Wawan. Report by Salma Rihhadatul Aisy.
