Dream - As parents, of course we want to implement rules and discipline for our children. The hope is that our children will become good, disciplined, and independent individuals. Unfortunately, the way we often do it is often not quite right.
Threats, shouting, loud voices to yelling, may often be uttered by the father or mother. In this condition, the child immediately feels scared and makes them immediately follow what the parents command.
The following habit turns out to have a very damaging effect. Not only does it damage the emotional relationship between the child and the parents, but it also affects their brain development. Why is that? Doctor Yuni Astria, a pediatric specialist, revealed that continuously scolding a child can be very dangerous for their brain development.
"Continuously scolding a child is generally destructive anger. Not only does it affect the child's behavioral development to become more closed off or more aggressive, the habit of scolding a child, both verbally and physically with destructive violence, also has an impact on the child's brain volume," said Dr. Yuni.
For example, constantly labeling a child by saying "you are a nuisance", "pathetic, you can't even do this", "why are you so stupid and don't understand anything".
"If that is done very often, the child's brain volume can decrease. 'The more often a child is scolded, the less the neurons in the brain develop, and the brain volume decreases,' said Dr. Yuni."
He also explained that in children who are constantly scolded or subjected to physical violence (pinched, pinched, beaten), brain activity in the temporal lobe decreases, so the connection to the cerebellum (small brain) is not optimal. This condition has a negative impact on the child's memory power.
The other negative impact when children are frequently scolded destructively is that they cannot recognize their emotions and it makes their stress level very high.
"The effect is that the neurons in the brain related to visual perception and executive function decrease and impact future academic performance,"
"revealed by Dr. Yuni."

According to Dr. Yuni, it is important for parents to continue learning how to control their emotions. There are many ways that can be done to discipline and communicate with children. The continuous habit of scolding children, in fact, has a negative impact on their brain development and psychology, instead of making them disciplined. Source: IG @dryunianak
