Dream - Jokowi denies the bestowal of an honorary general title to Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto as a political transaction. The President, whose full name is Joko Widodo, stated that similar titles have also been given to many figures.
Jokowi bestowed the special title of four-star general upon Prabowo at the Headquarters of the Indonesian National Army, Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Wednesday, February 28, 2024.
Appointment in accordance with Presidential Decree Number 13/TNI/2024 dated February 21, 2024 regarding the Bestowal of Special Rank in the form of Honorary TNI General. 'Yes, if we provide political transactions before the election. This is after the election so that there are no such assumptions,' said Jokowi, Wednesday, February 28, 2024.
Jokowi explained that the same award had been given to Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan. "This is something common in the TNI and Polri," he said.
The awarding of honors to Prabowo has sparked public debate amidst his former status as Pangkostrad who was honorably discharged from ABRI through Presidential Decree Number: 62/ABRI/1998 regarding the dismissal of Lieutenant General Prabowo Subianto in November 1998. In that year, Prabowo, who held the rank of lieutenant general, was associated with the assignment of the Mawar Task Force or better known as the Mawar Team to abduct pro-democracy activists.
