Dream - Shopping for food or cooking food often we don't calculate accurately. Buy in large quantities but not consumed because already full or not stored properly so the food becomes stale.
Finally, wasted food is a waste and very extravagant. This bad habit turns out to have negative effects on the environment globally and the national economy.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), one-third of the food produced is wasted due to human behavior that is wasteful of food. The National Food Agency (BAPANAS) sees this phenomenon as urgent because in Indonesia itself there are still many people who lack food, but on the other hand, there are still many people who waste food. In fact, a grain of rice that we eat is valuable and can be beneficial to others in need.
Every year, there are 23-48 million tons of wasted food that end up in the trash. In fact, 40% of the waste in Landfills is food waste. This contributes to global warming and causes economic losses amounting to Rp 213-551 Trillion, which is equivalent to 4-5% of the total Gross Domestic Product (GDP). However, if this wasted food is utilized again, it could feed 61-125 million people in Indonesia.
Then, what should we do to reduce the amount of food waste? According to Nita Yulianis, Director of Food Alertness and Nutrition at the National Food Agency, we can start by doing small things to reduce the amount of food waste.
First, take enough food and it must be finished, don't be greedy. Second, be wiser in shopping for food, don't buy all discounted food products, only buy the food that we will finish. Third, don't hesitate to take away if the food we eat at the restaurant is not finished. We can finish the food at home or if the food has not been touched at all, we can give it to someone else.
Fourth, also pay attention to the expiration date of food, do not let food that is still long expired be eaten first, so that food that is about to expire will not be eaten and end up being thrown away. Fifth, we can also reuse food ingredients that can still be used, such as broccoli stems used for soup, bones processed into broth, even leftover rice processed into snacks in the form of crackers. Remaining processed food that is still suitable for consumption can also be reprocessed into other dishes, such as shredded fried chicken to be used for soup.
"Zero Food Waste"
The following is the translation of the 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "The fifth step is known as zero food waste. Many people believe that zero food waste is a step to process food that has become waste."
ujar Nita."
However, zero food waste utilizes food that is still fit for consumption, but only because of a certain condition, the food cannot be utilized by us. The food is certainly still in a safe condition, not damaged, but potentially wasted. "We need to understand that this is a national problem. When we do not contribute individually, it will affect the heat of the Indonesian earth, which when we want to plant crops again, is no longer friendly. Worried that in the end, we have to eat something that is not food," said Nita.
BAPANAS also collaborated with LG and FoodCycle Indonesia through active participation in the Better Life Festival talkshow organized by LG Electronics Indonesia at Commune Space Area, Chillax Sudirman. BAPANAS also supports the distribution of food donations using the NFA Food Truck in three locations in the Jabodetabek area.
"Collaboration with the private sector allows us to strengthen the positive impact towards a more sustainable and brighter future of Indonesia Emas 2045, starting with the importance of young generations' awareness to prevent and reduce food waste," said Nyoto Suwignyo, Deputy of Food Vulnerability and Nutrition at BAPANAS.
