Dream - PT Sepatu Bata Tbk (BATA) has halted production at its factory located in Purwakarta until April 30, 2024, due to continuously declining production demand.

"History of the Establishment of Bata"
The shoe brand Bata is certainly not unfamiliar in Indonesia. Bata has been present in Indonesia since 1931, 14 years before the proclamation of Indonesia. However, many people mistakenly think that this is an original Indonesian brand. Bata actually originates from Czech Republic, founded by a family named Tomas, Anna, and Antonin Bata.
Quoting the official history of Bata Indonesia, Bata entered the Homeland through a collaboration with NV, Netherlandsch-Indisch, as a shoe importer operating in Tanjung Priok.
Tomas Bata established a shoe factory in the middle of a rubber plantation in the Kalibata area, located at Jl. Kalibata Raya, South Jakarta. Shoe production began in 1940.
"In 1982, PT. Sepatu Bata Tbk was listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange on March 24th. Then in 1994, the construction of Bata shoe factory in Purwakarta was completed."
Bata has become one of the largest factories in Indonesia. This brand is famous for its school shoes with the tagline "Back to School". Bata also produces other brands such as Marie Claire, Comfit, Power, Bubblegummers, North Star, B-First, and Weinbrenner.
Bata has operated a retail chain of 435 stores nationwide, consisting of Family and City Stores. Each Bata retail store is different from the others in terms of product variety. Bata Indonesia operates a Wholesale Department that serves independent Retail Dealers.
Bata has recorded a loss of Rp190.28 billion in the first quarter of 2024, down 79% year on year. Along with a 5% year-on-year decline in sales to Rp609.61 billion. Bata's shares also plummeted 12% to Rp83/share.
