Dream - The country of Sweden went viral because it sells land plots for the price of a cup of coffee. The price is only a few cents. The land is located in Gotene, which is 200 miles southwest of Stockholm, Sweden.

They sell land starting from 1 krona, or 9 cents US dollars, per square meter. This price, when converted to Indonesian Rupiah, is equivalent to Rp1,549.35 only. Gotene is referred to as the best rural area in Sweden.

Gotene is a rural area with 5,000 residents living in the main city and 13,000 residents in the wider municipality. Mayor Johan Mansson said that land in the area is being sold cheaply due to economic decline and a decrease in the rural population.

This scheme was launched last month with around 30 interested buyers. Four of them bought plots at a price of one krona per square meter. The size of the plots ranges from 700-1,200 square meters.

"This went viral and we have thousands and thousands of requests to our phone exchange," he said. Due to unprecedented demand, Mansson said there were many calls from around the world.

The authorities have temporarily halted the bidding process until early August to consider how to proceed. Mansson said that building a house usually costs around 3 to 4 million krona, or about US$280,000 to US$375,000. The price of a plot of land is usually around 500,000 krona, or about US$47,000.

So far, anyone can buy a plot of land, they don't have to live in Sweden, or commit to living there permanently. Mansson said that "it is not impossible" that they will create a similar scheme of affordable housing like the famous "one euro" houses in rural communities in Italy.
