Dream - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) discusses the traffic congestion currently occurring in major cities in Indonesia. One of them is Medan City, which is currently led by his son-in-law, Bobby Nasution.
This was conveyed by Jokowi during his speech at the National Coordination Meeting of the Association of All Indonesian City Governments (APEKSI) 2024. Initially, he discussed the prediction that by 2045, 70 percent of Indonesia's population will be in urban areas. Then, by 2050, 80 percent of the world's population will be in urban areas.
"What will happen? The burden of the city will become very heavy. That is why I often emphasize that every city in Indonesia should have a detailed city plan,"
He said Jokowi as seen on the President's Secretariat YouTube, Tuesday, June 4, 2024.
He messaged that all cities in Indonesia should be comfortable to live in, both for local residents and visitors. Then he mentioned that currently cities in Indonesia are starting to experience traffic congestion.
"He called the Mayor of Balikpapan, Rahmad Mas'ud, where the area is often congested. Then the Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi, this Hero City is also considered to have experienced traffic congestion according to Jokowi."
"We see now that many cities in our country are starting to experience traffic congestion. Mr. Mayor of Balikpapan, is Balikpapan already congested? I heard it is. Surabaya is also congested, Mr. Mayor? Yes, it is already congested."
"Jokowi revealed, which was responded to by the mayors."
Former Jakarta Governor also called Acting Mayor of Bandung Bambang Tirtoyuliono, the City of Flowers has also experienced traffic congestion. Recently, Jokowi called Mayor of Medan Bobby Nasutiona alias the son-in-law. Jokowi sees that the capital city of North Sumatra has also experienced traffic congestion.
"Bandung, has the Mayor of Bandung already been stuck in traffic? Yes. Is the Mayor of Medan stuck in traffic too? Yes, it's starting to get congested everywhere.""
the word Jokowi.
Jokowi then reiterated his message, urging all mayors in Indonesia to create an integrated mass transportation plan in their respective cities. "Therefore, the city's plan regarding public mass transportation must be prepared. If we always envision subways, MRTs, and LRTs, the costs would be enormous," explained Jokowi.
