Minister Basuki Ensures There Will Be Toll Rate Discounts during Eid Homecoming 2024

Dream - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono ensures that the Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT) will provide toll tariff discounts during the 2024 Eid homecoming season.

Basuki said, until now there has been no BUJT that has proposed the implementation of toll tariff discounts. However, he ensures that the discount will still be applied during this year's Eid moment.

Basuki added, the provision of toll rate discounts has also been carried out in previous years.

Some BUJT provide toll rate discounts during certain periods, such as holiday seasons like Eid, Christmas, and New Year.

This discount is implemented, among other things, to help smooth traffic flow and alleviate the burden of travel costs for the community, as well as to promote tourism.

However, toll rate discounts are usually applied at certain times outside the peak travel dates to encourage the use of toll roads during non-peak hours and alleviate traffic congestion.

The Ministry of Transportation's Transportation Policy Agency predicts that the movement of people during Eid al-Fitr 2024 will reach 193.6 million individuals. Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that this figure has increased compared to the movement of people during Eid al-Fitr 2023, which was 123.8 million individuals.

He said the government will implement a comprehensive strategy to deal with the surge of homecoming travelers, which is feared to cause congestion at junctions and road sections. This strategy will focus on three main aspects: travel patterns, transportation patterns, and traffic patterns. "We will carry out measures such as timing the homecoming trips, organizing discounted fares for mass transportation for early homecoming, free homecoming trips, traffic engineering, discounted toll fees, and traffic management, especially in areas at risk of experiencing extreme congestion," said Budi.

The estimated peak of the homecoming current based on public choice is D-2 or Monday, April 8, 2024, with a potential movement of 26.6 million people. Meanwhile, the estimated peak of the return current is H+3, namely Sunday, April 14, 2024, with a potential movement of 41 million people.
