Dream - The Singapore government is closely monitoring the rapid development of COVID-19 cases in the country. In the past week, the number of patients affected by this endemic disease has reportedly doubled.
Based on the data, there were recorded 25,900 COVID-19 cases during the period of May 5-11, 2024, nearly doubling from the previous week which amounted to around 13,000 cases.
The following is the translation of the 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any HTML tags: "The resurgence of Covid-19 cases in Singapore has raised concerns among the public. However, the local government has assured that various prevention efforts have been implemented to control the spread of the virus."
"Spike in Cases and Dominant Variants"
The surge in COVID-19 cases in Singapore is caused by a new variant that dominates infections, namely subvariants KP.1 and KP.2. These two subvariants contribute two-thirds of the total number of recent infection cases. Despite the increase in cases, the characteristics of this variant do not show a faster transmission or higher severity compared to previous variants like Delta.
"KP.1 and KP.2 do not spread like the Delta era, and do not cause high mortality,""
According to Dicky Budiman, Epidemiologist quoted from Liputan6.com.
"Symptoms that Appear"
The symptoms reported in cases of KP.1 and KP.2 subvariant infections in Singapore are similar to the general symptoms of COVID-19. However, it is acknowledged that there are some slight differences from the new variant of the virus that once paralyzed the world.
Quoted from Alodokter, here are some symptoms that appear. Fever Sore throat Painful mouth sores on the tongue, gums, and inner cheeks Loss of appetite Red rash that is not itchy, sometimes accompanied by blisters on the palms, soles of the feet, and buttocks Stomach ache Cough
"No Need to Panic, Stay Alert"
Dicky Budiman urges the public not to panic when seeing the increase in COVID-19 cases in Singapore. He suggests maintaining clean and healthy habits by regularly wearing masks, washing hands, and avoiding crowds.
"For the general public, there is no need to panic. But of course, we must continue to adopt clean and healthy habits by wearing masks, washing hands, and avoiding crowds," message from Dicky Budiman. Source: Liputan6.com."
