Dream - When buying packaged food or drinks at the supermarket, Sahabat Dream may often see labels such as 'low fat' or 'less sugar'. Both labels are often sought after by people who are on a diet and want to improve their eating habits.
Consuming food and drinks with lower sugar or fat content is considered healthier compared to products without such labels. However, in reality, these labels may not necessarily depict better nutritional content for consumption. Perhaps, Sahabat Dream has been confused in choosing between these two labels in order to maintain a better diet. The comparison between the two is answered by General Practitioner & Healthy Lifestyle Consultant, Prama Aditya.
According to Prama, there is no better product when consumed during a diet with both labels. "Especially if the diet is intended to take care of the body," he added.
Products with the label 'less sugar' may not necessarily be better because the reduction in sugar content may not be significant. "From using 100% sugar, it's usually only reduced by 30%. So there's still 70% of the sugar. That's usually how it is," says Dr. Prama.
"Usually low-fat products, when you read the carbohydrate content, are actually higher than full cream ones, for example, when talking about milk," he explained. Consuming low-fat food or drinks but high in carbohydrates will not make weight control easier. Carbohydrate accumulation can also become stubborn fat if Sahabat Dream does not exercise and improve their diet."
"If Sahabat Dream is currently on a diet and wants to improve their eating habits, it is better to consume fresh food rather than packaged food."

If it's difficult to resist the urge to buy snacks at the supermarket, especially sweet food or drinks, try choosing products labeled 'no sugar'. Also pay attention to the content of sugar, fat, sodium, and carbohydrates to ensure they don't exceed your daily body needs when consumed.
