Dream - Prayer when visiting the grave is a practice that is recited when visiting the graves of parents, siblings, relatives, or friends who have passed away. Every prayer that is recited contains hope for goodness for the inhabitants of the grave and for those who recite it.

Especially when approaching the month of Ramadan, some Muslims will visit the graves of their deceased parents and relatives. Although visiting graves was once prohibited during the time of the Prophet Muhammad for fear of it leading to polytheism, with the understanding of religion and belief in the Oneness of Allah SWT, the followers of Prophet Muhammad SAW are allowed to do so.

In carrying out this activity, it is important to follow the procedures of visiting graves so that the deeds performed do not deviate from the teachings of religion. It contains various readings of verses from the Quran, prayers during grave visits as a reminder of death and also to pray for the deceased. So, what are the prayers to recite during a grave visit? 1. Greetings to the Graves.

Translation: "Meaning: Peace be upon you, O believers and Muslims who reside in the grave. May Allah bestow His mercy upon those who have gone before and those who will follow you and us. Indeed, God willing, we will follow you."

2. Reading Istighfar

Astaghfirullah Hal Adzim Alladzi La ilaha Illa Huwal Hayyul Qoyyumu Wa atubu Ilaihi. Translation: I seek forgiveness from Allah, the Almighty, who there is no god but Him, the Ever-Living, the Self-Subsisting, and I repent to Him.

3. Read Surah Al-Fatihah for the deceased.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help. Guide us on the Straight Path, the path of those who have received Your grace; not the path of those who have brought down wrath upon themselves, nor of those who have gone astray.

Meaning: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. The Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help. Guide us on the Straight Path, the path of those who have received Your grace; not the path of those who have brought down wrath upon themselves, nor of those who have gone astray.

4. Read Surah Al-Baqarah verses 1-5.

Al-Fatihah in Latin

Alif laam miim. ذَٰلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ هُدًى لِلْمُتَّقِينَ. الَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْغَيْبِ وَيُقِيمُونَ الصَّلَاةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنْفِقُونَ. الَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْغَيْبِ وَيُقِيمُونَ الصَّلَاةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنْفِقُونَ. وَالَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكَ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ وَبِالْآخِرَةِ هُمْ يُوقِنُونَ. أُولَٰئِكَ عَلَىٰ هُدًى مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ.

Translated: "Meaning: Alif laam miim. This book (the Quran) has no doubt in it; it is a guidance for the righteous. (That is) those who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them. And those who believe in the Book (the Quran) that has been revealed to you and the Books that were revealed before you, and they have certainty in the Hereafter. They are the ones who receive guidance from their Lord, and they are the successful ones."

5. Read Ayat Kursi

"Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great."

6. Prayer for the deceased.

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ وَاعْفُ عَنْهُ وَعَافِهِ وَأَكْرِمْ نُزُلَهُ وَوَسِّعْ مُدْخَلَهُ وَاغْسِلْهُ بِمَاءٍ وَثَلْجٍ وَبَرَدٍ وَنَقِّهِ مِنْ الْخَطَايَا كَمَا يُنَقَّى الثَّوْبُ الْأَبْيَضُ مِنْ الدَّنَسِ وَأَبْدِلْهُ دَارًا خَيْرًا مِنْ دَارِهِ وَأَهْلًا خَيْرًا مِنْ أَهْلِهِ وَزَوْجًا خَيْرًا مِنْ زَوْجِههِ وَقِهِ فِتْنَةَ الْقَبْرِ وَعَذَابَ النَّارِ

Meaning: O Allah, grant him forgiveness and mercy. Grant him safety and forgive him. Honor him and widen his entrance. Cleanse him with water, ice, and dew. Purify him from sins as You purify white clothes from dirt. Replace his home with a better one, his family with a better one (in this world), and his wife with a better one. And protect him from the trials of the grave and the torment of hell." (Narrated by Muslim).
