Dream - The American media, USA Today, has released a list of 100 tourist trap locations around the world. The best destination list was created so that travelers can find attractions without wasting time or money on disappointing experiences.

Interestingly, three out of the 100 best tourist destinations chosen by USA Today are located in Indonesia. In making the assessment, USA Today analyzed 23.2 million Google reviews of the top 500 tourist attractions in the world, which included 65 countries on six continents. One aspect considered is how often reviews mention specific tourist spots as tourist traps, overrated, and expensive.

"We compare attractions to each other by measuring the relative frequency of mentions, dividing the number of mentions in each case by the total number of reviews for that tourist attraction," said the USA Today statement on its website, quoted from Liputan6.com, Saturday, September 30, 2023. "We present our findings, so you are armed with the information you need before planning to visit popular tourist destinations," the statement continued.

"USA Today ranks Tegallalang Rice Terrace at number 12 with a total of 38,199 reviews, 198 mentions of tourist trap, and a frequency of 0.52 percent. (Photo: Illustration)"

Then, there is also the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary ranked 82nd with 38,867 reviews, 37 mentions of tourist traps, and a frequency of 0.10 percent based on the calculation. Lastly, with 82,499 reviews, 68 mentions of tourist traps, and a frequency of 0.08 percent, there is Tanah Lot in the 89th position. (Photo: Illustration)

However, Indonesia is not on the list of the most expensive tourist attractions in the world. In this list, the top three are Iceland, Canada, and the United States, respectively occupying the first, second, and third positions. The most expensive is the Blue Lagoon in Grindavik, with prices starting from US$67 (around Rp1 million) per person, and it is almost double the price during "peak hours".

Followed by the Capilano Suspension Bridge in Vancouver with a ticket price of US$ 69.95 (around Rp1 million) per person if visitors buy it at the ticket counter. California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco is in third place with an entrance fee that has consumers complaining because it is priced at US$ 49.75 (around Rp771 thousand) for adult tickets during the holiday season. Rankings are based on nominations made by 580 anonymous voters consisting of travel journalists, hospitality industry players, and luxury travelers from around the world. Two Indonesian hotels that successfully made it onto the list are Nihi Sumba, ranked 18th, and Desa Potato Head in Seminyak, Bali, at position 40.
