Dream - Special Staff to the President, Grace Natalie, explains about the development of the New Capital City (IKN) which is only 15 percent completed during the celebration of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia on August 17, 2024. Grace mentioned that the 15 percent progress represents the overall development in IKN.
"IKN is a long-term program, which can take 15 to 20 years (for its development). Currently, it is in the first phase (2022-2024). So, 15 percent is from the total," said Grace Natalie quoted from Liputan6.com, Wednesday, July 17, 2024."
He said, the development of IKN does indeed take a long time because it is four times the size of Jakarta. For the first phase, the development of IKN focuses on the State Palace, ministry buildings, as well as supporting infrastructure such as water and electricity. "IKN is four times the size of Jakarta, this is a very big project," he said.
"Previously, President Joko Widodo or Jokowi mentioned that the development of the new Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan will only be 15 percent completed by August 17, 2024. As for the 79th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, the ceremony will be held at IKN and the Istana Merdeka in Jakarta."
"So don't imagine that our August 17 ceremony is already complete. It's not like that, there are many new things in my opinion. Maybe only about 15 percent (completed) will be counted overall later on August 17."
word Jokowi at the Air Force Base Halim Perdanakusuma Jakarta, Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
Long-term project
He emphasized that IKN is a long-term project that cannot be completed in just 2 to 3 years. Jokowi predicts that the development of IKN will take at least 20 years. "And IKN is not built in 2 or 3 years, it is a big long-term dream, a long-term project. Maybe 15-20 years (to complete)," he said.
Jokowi said, therefore the government needs investor support for the development of IKN. Because, the state budget (APBN) can only finance the core area of the IKN government center (KIPP).
"(IKN) This still requires investment, it still requires investors from both domestic and foreign. That's what we're chasing. As for the government, it is the obligation of government buildings, the Presidential Palace, the Vice Presidential Palace, and therefore 100 percent of the state budget."
He said.
