Dream - All preparations are being made to hold the Presidential and Vice Presidential Election in 2024. One of them is the campaign period from November 28, 2023, to February 10, 2024. During this campaign period, what many people are eagerly awaiting are the debates between the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates. There is a lot of buzz on X or Twitter that the General Election Commission (KPU) is canceling the vice presidential candidate debates.
Regarding this matter, the chairman of KPU, Hasyim Asy'ari, denied that they eliminated the format of debates between vice presidential candidates (Cawapres) in the General Elections (Pemilu) 2024.
"Ngawur itu!," expressed Hasyim through a short message, as quoted from Liputan6.com.
Hasyim clarified the developing information. He ensured that the vice presidential debates in 2024 will still take place with the predetermined format. "There will still be vice presidential debates, the Election Law states that there will be 5 debates if it's a vice presidential debate, 3 debates if it's a presidential candidate debate, and two debates for vice presidential candidates," said Hasyim.
The following is the translation of the given 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any HTML tags: "Denial from Hasyim was conveyed after news emerged regarding changes in the debate format for the 2024 Presidential Election. In the news, it was mentioned that the General Election Commission (KPU) did not provide a special debate round attended only by presidential or vice-presidential candidates, similar to the 2019 Presidential Election."
The Chairman of the Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU), Hasyim Asy'ari, explained that the five rounds of debates basically consist of three debates between presidential candidates and two debates between vice presidential candidates. However, in these five debates, the presidential and vice presidential pairs always appear together. Only their speaking portions are differentiated. Hasyim stated that the presidential and vice presidential pairs must attend the debates together to demonstrate unity and cohesion among them to the public. "This way, the public will be more confident in their performance during the debates," said Hasyim Asy'ari.
"In its implementation, said Hasyim, the proportion of speaking time will be adjusted. For example, in the presidential debate, the speaking proportion will be more than the vice presidential debate."
The following is the translation of the given 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "According to Hasyim, that step is a change from the format of the 2019 presidential election, where not all candidates were present directly at the debate location. The 2024 presidential election debates will be conducted three times for presidential candidates and two times for vice presidential candidates, in accordance with KPU Regulation No. 15 of 2023 Article 50 Paragraph (1). Each session of the presidential and vice presidential debates will consist of six segments, including opening, reading of the rules, delivery of vision, mission, and work programs, as well as closing segment."
KPU has also determined specific themes for each debate session. The first debate on December 12 will discuss law, human rights, governance, corruption eradication, and democracy strengthening. The second debate on December 22 will carry the theme of defense, security, geopolitics, and international relations. The theme of the third debate on January 7, 2024, includes economics (people's and digital), social welfare, investment, trade, (digital) taxation, finance, and state budget management.
The fourth debate on January 21, 2024 will discuss energy, natural resources, SMN, carbon tax, the environment and agrarian issues, as well as indigenous communities. The final debate on February 4, 2024 will focus on information technology, improving public services, hoaxes, intolerance, education, health (post-COVID Society), and employment. These themes refer to the national vision in the Opening of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN). Source: Liputan6.com
