Dream - A number of state officials from various ministries to the President and Vice President are preparing to move to the Nusantara Capital (IKN) in East Kalimantan. In connection with the upcoming relocation of the capital city of Indonesia from Jakarta to IKN, the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) informs that official vehicles to be used in this area will be restricted.
OIKN emphasizes the use of official vehicles in the IKN area is only allowed for state officials, starting from the president, vice president, ministers, and other high-ranking officials of state institutions.
"So basically, there will be no more official vehicles, except for official vehicles for the president, vice president, ministers, and possibly for other high-ranking officials."
According to Deputy of Facilities and Infrastructure of OIKN, Silvia Halim quoted from Merdeka.com, Thursday, February 22, 2024.
Besides the policy of limiting official vehicles, Silvia also added that the development of the IKN area also needs to start a city design policy that has been designed by the government.
With such strict provisions, the need to use cars in IKN is estimated to be not too significant or very minimal.
"This is because people can already commute from home to work by walking, cycling, or using public transportation, so what's the point of owning a car?"
"katanya." translates to "he/she said."
As information, based on Attachment Law No. 3/2022 regarding the State Capital City, the main objective of the IKN plan is to create a future city that is not dependent on private vehicles with the concept of transit-oriented development (TOD). The goal is to create a community where people can live, work, and play in a decent manner, a community that allows for more pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users, and can reduce the need for daily travel and create a compact city.
This environment applies the concept of mixed-use land use to support the reduction of travel needs. Then it provides all the necessary functions to ensure 10-minute access to all basic and public facilities as well as open green spaces that can be reached by walking, cycling, or using autonomous vehicles.
