"Dream - Finland has been named the happiest country in the world for six consecutive years by the World Happiness Report."
However, happiness in Finland is not only because of its people who smile widely or the carnival atmosphere on every street.
According to Business Insider, a foreign national named Mahmudul Islam revealed how life in the Nordic country is. According to Mahmudul, the happiness that can be enjoyed in Finland is also inseparable from high-quality democracy policies and supporting public institutions. "When I lived in Finland for school from 2016 to 2019, it became very clear to me how policies and the government have helped this country maintain its happiness," Mahmudul wrote.
"I am not worried if strangers on the street have malicious intentions towards me, and I feel able to express my political opinions (positive or negative) freely without self-censorship or backlash," he said. "People also seem to have a lot of trust in their local politicians, and I think the general election cycle is fair and peaceful enough during my time there," he added.
According to him, the best part of living in Finland is getting free education. He started school in 2016 for domestic and international students.
"After the policy change in 2017, non-European Union students in certain circumstances may have to pay school fees, which vary depending on the school," he said.
Although the school fees are free, he still has to pay for living expenses. He was worried when looking for a job because he wasn't fluent in Finnish. However, he managed to find a job at a restaurant that provided him with enough money to live.
"As a foreign student, I pay around 200 euros per year for a fairly comprehensive private health insurance," he said. In addition to that, he receives free occupational health care from his employer, which ultimately covers visits to the doctor for joint pain, common illnesses, earwax removal, and counseling sessions. As an expatriate, he is grateful to experience all these financial benefits."
"The extraordinary sense of security is the core of Finnish happiness. In my opinion, the key element behind Finnish happiness is its extensive welfare policy, which covers many basic needs from 'cradle to grave' and provides a high level of security for its residents,"

Mahmudul adds that countries and policymakers play a crucial role in building a happy society.
Thanks to the support from public institutions, Finnish citizens enjoy free healthcare services and free education from elementary school to university.
"Even when I was working as a civil servant, I received automatic deductions for pension and unemployment benefits from every salary disbursed to government-funded programs."
