Dream - The dream of performing the Hajj has long been growing in the mind of Ahmad Subianto. The man, born in Purbalingga 82 years ago, admitted that he has been tirelessly striving to make a living by selling bananas around Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan. "I have been selling bananas since the 1980s. At that time, I was still young and strong enough to go around Pangkalan Bun on a bicycle to sell bananas. But now, I am no longer capable," he said in Madinah.
It tells about how they initially cultivated land given by the government from the transmigration program together with his wife, Sumbiyah (74). They sold the produce from the garden themselves in the market. "Initially, not only bananas were sold, but there were also vegetables. However, because most customers asked for bananas, in the end, I focused on selling bananas," he said.
He admitted that the results of selling bananas around were not significant. However, he and his wife routinely set aside a little bit to save. Hopefully, after accumulating a lot, he will use it to register for the hajj pilgrimage together.
However, he postponed his desire to go on a pilgrimage after his youngest child finished high school. He believed that his child's education was far more important than his dream of going on a pilgrimage. Therefore, in 1999, he decided to use his savings to finance his youngest child's education in a university in Palangkaraya.
"Back then, around 1999, our savings were quite substantial. But because our youngest child wanted to go to university, when we offered to register for the pilgrimage, we postponed it. We used the savings to finance his education," he said. While funding his youngest child's education, Subiyanto and his wife admitted that they still tried to set aside a little bit of their income to save, so that they could realize their dream of performing the Hajj pilgrimage to the Holy Land."
In 2004, his youngest child successfully completed his education at university and worked at a private company in Palangkaraya. In 2008, his child successfully passed the selection for civil servant candidates (CPNS) in one of the institutions. As a result, two out of four of his children successfully obtained the status as civil servants. Thanks to the success of their child, Ahmad Subianto and his wife were able to go for Umrah.
"Alhamdulillah around the beginning of 2018, my wife and I have performed the umrah pilgrimage. My eldest child helped finance it. Then, after returning from umrah, my youngest child also registered me and my wife for the hajj pilgrimage," he said. After waiting for about six years, Ahmad Subiyanto finally entered the priority list for elderly hajj pilgrims who are eligible to make the first payment in 2024. Then, in the second payment phase, his wife entered the list of pilgrims who are eligible to pay Bipih 2024."
The quota of pilgrims who postpone their departure will be filled by prospective pilgrims registered in the reserve quota.
