Dream - Harjo Mislan, recorded as the oldest pilgrim from Indonesia in the Hajj season of 1445 H/2024 AD. Mbah Harjo departed for the holy land at the age of 110 years.
While holding a bouquet of red roses and a cane, Mbah Harjo got off the bus and was immediately guided by an officer to carefully descend the stairs. At that moment, his face appeared flat, without expression. His arrival was welcomed by the Saudi Arabian Hajj Organizing Officers (PPIH) and other pilgrims. He was immediately invited to sit in a wheelchair and escorted to the lobby of Dar Al Naem Hotel, Sector 1 of the Working Area (Daker) in Madinah.
Without many words, Mbah Harjo remained silent as everyone asked about his news and health condition. He looked confused and tried to recognize his surroundings. However, his expression changed when he saw the symbol of the red and white flag on the hajj officer's uniform.
"Red and white?" asked Harjo Mislan to the Media Center officer quoted from the Ministry of Religious Affairs website, Monday, May 20, 2024. "Yes, Mbah, this is an Indonesian hajj officer. Right now, Mbah is already in Madinah. These are all the hajj officers here," explained one officer to Mbah Harjo."
Grandfather from Ponorogo nodded his head. He began to respond to various questions asked to him. Mbah Harjo admitted that the long journey from Surabaya to Madinah was quite tiring. However, he felt happy when he arrived in Madinah.
Talking to the officer, Mbah Harjo reminisced about his struggles during the fight against the colonizers. He even admitted to having participated in a war against the Netherlands. "(War against the Netherlands) Using bare fists," said Mbah Harjo.
Sirmat, Mbah Harjo's child explained that his father is registered as a veteran fighter. His peers are no longer around, only Mbah Harjo is still alive. "From the veteran group, only Father is still here," said Sirmat. Mbah Harjo is a retired village official and also a farmer in the village. In his old age, Mbah Harjo still carries out activities as usual.
Still Able to Walk with a Cane
Sirmat explained that his father can still walk with the help of a cane. Mbah Harjo uses a wheelchair only to speed up movement. Not only that, as a precaution, Sirmat also brought a wheelchair from the homeland just in case. "Actually, he can walk on his own, but he uses a wheelchair to speed up movement, so as not to inconvenience others," said Sirmat.
He conveyed that Mbah Harjo's hearing condition is now less optimal. So in order to communicate, it must be with a louder voice. "Yes, so when speaking, the voice must be a bit louder," he said.
In this pilgrimage journey, Mbah Harjo is not only accompanied by his child. There are also Mbah Harjo's son-in-law and daughter-in-law who are also performing the Hajj together. Currently, Mbah Harjo and his family are performing their worship at the Prophet's Mosque. They will also visit several historical sites in Medina before departing for Mecca at the end of the month.
