Dream - Physical limitations do not become obstacles for Sajeriah, a 65-year-old grandmother, to fulfill her pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Despite her blindness, the smile on her face shines brightly when she can embark on the pilgrimage after waiting for 14 years.
Grandmother Sajeriah, a visually impaired person, is part of the third group (kloter) of the Makassar Embarkation (UPG-03) and arrived in Madinah on May 15, 2024. The woman from Parepare, South Sulawesi, was enthusiastic enough to prepare her own pilgrimage equipment, from washing, folding, to arranging it in a suitcase. Despite having limitations, Sajeriah admitted that she was not worried about making the Hajj journey.
Even if, when carrying out worship, she is destined to die, Sajeriah admits sincerely. "I am not afraid, even if I die it's okay," she said in Madinah, quoted from the Kemenag website, Friday, May 17, 2024.
The sincerity of Sajeriah even made people around her shed tears. Hasmia (53), her niece who accompanied Sajeriah in performing the Hajj pilgrimage, couldn't hold back her tears.
Since childhood, Hasmia admitted to being close to her aunt whom she called very independent. She is used to taking care of her nephews, cooking rice, washing, and doing all the household chores.
Hasmia doesn't even feel that her aunt has limitations. Because, according to her, Sajeriah is so skilled in performing various kinds of work. "She can cook, wash, and she does everything herself," said Hasmia.
Meanwhile, according to Hafidah Jufri, a nurse who examines health and accompanies, Sajeriah has an extraordinary spirit. He even feels amazed by Sajeriah. He mentions that Sajeriah's health condition is very good because the results of health tests, including blood, urine, and others, are still below the threshold. "His spirit is extraordinary, I am amazed," he said.
"M Hasyim Usman, Chairman of Group 3 UPG, is also impressed by Sajeriah's enthusiasm and strong conviction to depart despite having limitations. 'Initially, her companion was not included. Initially, her nephew who lived with her was proposed to accompany her, but he couldn't,' said Hasyim."
When Sajeriah was declared to depart, Hasyim gave encouragement. One of them, he divided the members of the group with diverse compositions, ranging from the old to the young, and the elderly. Also divided are members who are healthy and those who have health problems.
