Dream - Sweden has passed a law that allows grandparents to take paid parental leave to care for their grandchildren for up to three months in the first year of a child's life.
Quoting VOA Indonesia, according to the law, parents can transfer a portion of their parental leave benefits to their grandparents.
According to the Social Insurance Agency, a Swedish government agency that manages the social insurance system, a couple of parents can transfer a maximum of 45 days to someone else, while a single parent can transfer 90 days.
"Previously, this Scandinavian country also became the first country in the world to introduce paid parental leave for fathers, not just for mothers."
The following 'Bahasa' text translated to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "This country with a population of 10 million people is known for its social welfare system funded by taxpayers, and has built a society from generation to generation that always takes care of its citizens from birth to death."
"In Sweden, citizens are entitled to full leave when a child is born. Parental benefits are paid for a total of 480 days, or about 16 months, per child. Out of this amount, compensation for 390 days is calculated based on a person's full income. As for the remaining 90 days, individuals receive a fixed amount of 180 kronor (US$17) per day."
Another benefit for parents in Sweden is that they can also get a reduction in working hours until their child is 8 years old. Meanwhile, government employees can get a reduction in working hours until their child is 12 years old.
Although so, the rules for grandparents are the same as regular parental benefits and require someone to be insured in order to receive parental benefits. The majority of people in Sweden are already insured.
There are several provisions for parental benefits, namely a retiree can also take parental leave, in this case for example compensation based on the retiree's pension money. After that, a person is not allowed to seek employment or study while receiving parental benefits.
