Dream - A viral university in Vietnam requires a minimum height for prospective new students. This requirement is implemented by the School of Business and Management (HSB) at the National University of Hanoi.
According to Deutsche Welle website, for the admission of new students in 2024, HSB has set a minimum height requirement of 1.58 meters for females and 1.65 meters for males. Exceptions are possible under certain conditions.
This university states that there is a significant relationship between height and success, so people who are considered too short are not accepted by them. This requirement has caused controversy on social media in Vietnam.
"In early June, the Ministry of Education of Vietnam requested universities to review the requirements again. The universities then reduced the restrictions from four majors to only one major, which is the management and security major."
HSB justifies the height selection criteria by stating that their university is a place to train future leaders and excellent managers for the public and private sectors. Therefore, in addition to professional suitability, physical suitability is also required. Height is an important factor, especially in terms of leadership and self-confidence.
"Social psychologist Andrea Abele-Brehm from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany doubts the significant relationship between height and self-confidence. "There is a connection, but it is relatively small and ambiguous. This has been proven by various studies in America, Europe, and East Asia," she said in an interview with DW."
The average height in Vietnam is 1.56 meters for women and 1.68 meters for men. This data is sourced from the National Institute of Nutrition Vietnam for the year 2019-2020.
The National Statistics Authority of Vietnam, GSO, stated in writing to DW that data on height distribution is not systematically collected. Therefore, the standard deviation in Vietnam cannot be determined directly.
This is the correct calculation scheme for people's housing savings.
