This work is an innovation by Hironori Ikeno, a chef at Sushiya no Nohachi Restaurant. The idea came about in 2002 when a customer asked how small of a sushi he could make. Hironori answered firmly, "as small as a grain of rice," and he proved that he was not joking. Since then, this restaurant has gained international fame thanks to the uniqueness of the smallest sushi in the world that he created.

That is due to the level of precision and focus required to assemble those small ingredients. Therefore, Sushiya no Nohachi only provides small sushi plates to its customers a few times a week, with a maximum limit of five times a day.

Customers at Sushiya no Nohachi cannot simply order a plate of mini sushi. This rare menu item is only served for free upon request when ordering a regular-sized sushi course, costing around $50 (Rp 812,437). However, sometimes the restaurant makes exceptions for foreign visitors who come specifically to experience the smallest sushi in the world. It is known that the sushi at Sushiya no Nohachi is famously delicious, so it is not surprising that anyone would be willing to seize that opportunity.
