Kemenag Evaluates the Performance of Hajj Airlines, Garuda Indonesia Still Often Late

Dream - Two weeks before the departure of the Hajj pilgrims, the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) is conducting an evaluation of the performance of the airlines. Kemenag noted that Garuda Indonesia still frequently experiences delays.

"From the 12th to the 26th of May 2024, a total of 287 flight groups (kloter) were recorded departing for the Holy Land. Garuda Indonesia dispatched 152 kloter, while Saudia Airlines sent 132 kloter. "As of May 26th, we have observed that Garuda Indonesia still frequently experiences delays. Out of the 152 kloter, 60 kloter were delayed, which is approximately 39.47%," said Ministry of Religious Affairs spokesperson, Anna Hasbie, in her statement on Wednesday, May 28th, 2024."

Anna conveyed, the worst delay was experienced by the pilgrims of group 42 from Solo Embarkation (SOC-42). The delay was due to aircraft engine damage that was supposed to depart the pilgrims of SOC-41.

The delay of SOC 42 also affects the change of SOC 43 schedule, shifting up to 17 hours from the original plan. "Due to the broken machine of Garuda Indonesia, SOC-42 is delayed for 7 hours and 10 minutes. This is clearly very long and makes the pilgrims even more exhausted," he explained.

In addition, there are 13 batches with Garuda Indonesia delays ranging from one to two hours. Meanwhile, for delays above two hours, there are seven batches. "For Saudia Airlines, the longest delay was experienced by the first batch, Embakasi Jakarta-Bekasi or JKS-01, approximately 47 minutes," he added.

Evaluation of the two airlines serving the departure of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims will continue to be conducted every week. Currently, the stage of departure for pilgrims is entering the peak season.

As information, the arrival phase of the second wave of hajj pilgrims has been ongoing since May 24, 2024. The first wave concluded with 229 groups and 88,987 pilgrims. In the second wave, there are 325 groups with a total of more than 124 thousand pilgrims. During the second wave flights, Indonesian hajj pilgrims from various embarkation points in the homeland will arrive at King Abdul Aziz Jeddah International Airport. This phase will continue until June 10, 2024.
