Dream - Busy schedules, deadlines, and pressure, whether in college due to assignments and thesis, or in work, surely make our stress levels very high. In such conditions, what do you usually do, Sahabat Dream?
Instead of taking care of yourself in the room, feeling very lonely and sad, it's better to run to the gym and exercise. Dispose of that negative energy with intensive physical activity because it can help release stress effectively.
It doesn't matter if you end up crying during practice like the lyrics of Taylor Swift's song titled "Down Bad", which says "now I'm down bad, crying at the gym". Some people also feel like they have no problems at all, but suddenly start crying during intense workouts at the gym. Curious about why this happens?
"It is very normal to be in a period of stress. It could be because of anything, family, work, changes in relationships. Having an emotional response during exercise is not a bad thing," said Brad Foltz, a sports psychologist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center."
Stress is not the only trigger for tears when exercising, there are several different reasons why someone has an emotional response while being at the gym, one of the factors is happiness.
Even light activity can cause the release of endorphins, which, when flooding the body, can lead to significant mood improvement. With this logic, it makes sense that someone would have a more intense emotional experience to the point of crying during intense exercise. Stressful or challenging situations can make someone more prone to being overwhelmed with emotions and crying. During exercise, there is a release of pent-up and unprocessed emotions.
Our body releases a certain amount of tension and suppressed emotions that we have been keeping. Then, when we push ourselves through exercise, we lose some ability to hold everything in.
"Being emotional during certain exercises can even be a trauma response. For example, someone who has previously run away from dangerous situations may be triggered by physically running. On the other hand, crying at the gym can also stem from positive emotions," said Foltz.
Research has found that, in general, exercise is associated with improved mood and reduced stress levels. These emotional changes, for some people, can lead to tears. People may also experience tears of joy. Report by Aykaputri Amalia Rahmani / Source: Health
